AWANA CLUBS CANADA WILL CEASE SHIPPING AS OF MAY 31, 2010

On December 14, 2009 Phil Whitehead, Executive Director of Awana Clubs Canada (ACC) was presented a letter from Jack Eggar the President/CEO of Awana Clubs International (ACI) informing him that as of May 2010 Awana Clubs Canada would no longer be able to purchase Awana supplies from ACI. Consequently the Board of Directors of Awana Clubs Canada has determined that May 31, 2010 will be the last shipping day.

The reason given for this action was the failure by Awana Clubs Canada to sign a Ministry Partnership Covenant. This Covenant has been signed by all the other National Awana Entities around the world except Canada. It’s not that the Board of Directors of Awana Clubs Canada was not willing to sign the Covenant but rather in good conscience could not. Upon checking with the legal counsel for Awana Clubs Canada the Board of Directors was advised that some of the wording in the document was contrary to the regulations for Canadian Charities as established by Revenue Canada. Since 2006 Awana Clubs Canada has made a number of attempts to resolve this situation however Awana Clubs International was not willing to change their original document.

Instead, Awana Clubs International has established a new entity, Awana International Canada which will be the sole representative for Awana in Canada. This new entity is based in British Columbia at #101 – 2430 King George Blvd, Surrey, BC V4P 1H5, phone 1-877-422-6292.

In order to continue using the Awana program for the club year starting September 2010 churches will have to register with the newly established Awana International Canada. We suggest registering as soon as possible. Your Awana missionary will also be able to help you should you have questions.

It has been our great honour and pleasure to serve our registered churches for the past 34 years. We ask that you would remember the office and warehouse staff in Fonthill in prayer as they now must seek new employment.

Yours in Christ

Philip G Whitehead
Executive Director

We're excited about the new club year ahead and our prayer at Awana Canada is to better serve you, the local church, who in turn strive to reach the children and youth across our country with the good news of Jesus Christ. May God bless your efforts abundantly this club year!

Awana is dedicated to providing the tools, programs and resources for Parents and Churches to raise Christ-following Children. The Awana programs are developed to inspire children to learn what it is to be a follower of Christ and remain committed to the message of the gospel.

Highly developed programs bring your child into the teachings of Christ through games and activities, music and worship, scripture memorization and stories, special events, and awards. Awana is meant to be a safe, fun and educational way of sharing the teachings of Christ with children.
